Tarryall Historic District

Tarryall Historic District was a real treat to happen upon. I try to find all the most rural roads to take, and this is exactly why! This 27,000 acre ranch preserve is filled with relics dating back to the 1860s, from the very first pioneers of the region. Many people came in search of gold during that period, and most fled when they struck out, but some recognized this region as a prime location to settle. The 40 mile stretch along Tarryall Creek is dotted with remnants of those historic ranches, which are intermingled among working ranches of today. Definitely another highlight of the routes I've seen so far here in Colorado, and I'd love to spend a lot more time exploring this humongous ghost town.
