Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad

Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad 🤩 A steam powered excursion running 64 miles between Chama, NM and Antonito, CO. I actually rode this route many years ago as a young kid, but only have a few very vague memories of it. I've since heard it's one of the most authentic steam train experiences in the country, so have always hoped to one day take another ride now that I can properly appreciate it as a train enthusiast. Realistically I didn't think I'd be able to swing it during my stay in New Mexico this time around, as I knew the season was ending right about now and wasn't sure how the one-way train rides would work out for my timing. After looking into it a bit more at the last minute though, it turned out this weekend was still available as the FINAL run of the season, and a charter bus was included for the return leg! It still meant a two hour drive north from Santa Fe into Colorado, but after considering the #leafpeeping potential this time of year it became a no brainer. Definitely did not disappoint 🍁 Really cool to witness what it takes to bring a steam engine up over a 10,000ft pass too 🤘
