Instrument Cluster

The first part for my interior has arrived straight from GERMANY! 2002s were produced from 1968 through 1976, and during that time there were 5 different styles of instrument clusters used. This all black version has always been my favorite by far, and I knew it would be what I'd need to have in my 2002.

One of my goals for this car (or so I say) is to keep it as period correct looking as possible within reason, but luckily I don't have to feel too bad about swapping out the current gauge cluster for this one. My car currently has what are nicknamed "silver dollar" gauges which were used from '68 until April of '71 when they switched production over to this black style for a bit. My car was first registered in May of '71, so it was built pretty much right on the cusp of the changeover. I'm willing to let a matter of a few months slide for the sake of extra sexiness.

Yes this is a KPH speedometer, and yes I'm keeping it that way! That certainly was not part of my original plan, but while on the lookout for an all black cluster I saw this one pop up for sale in Germany. The price was fair, it's in great shape, and I decided it's just too cool to pass up. Nothing a little mental math can't take care of, but why do I need to know how fast I'm going anyway?

I haven't installed it yet, but soon™
