Her 50th Birthday

Happy 50th birthday to this car 🙌 On February 8th, 1971 she rolled off the factory floor in Munich, Germany.

Delivered to BMW importer Hoffman Motor Corp on Feb 12th, the car then presumably began it's voyage across the sea and the U.S. before being first sold on May 8th in Reseda, CA (in LA). It remained registered by that same owner until July 1982, when it was reportedly taken off the road and put in indoor storage. The car was not seen again (on paper) until 2011 when a guy purchased it locally from the original owner's wife. I don't have a ton of details regarding why, but at that time it was still in storage and the engine had been taken apart. The guy who bought it put in a replacement engine, had the car (roughly) re-sprayed, and sold it on eBay less than a year later to Mike. Mike kept the car, improving it along the way, until mid 2019 which is when it came to me. I'm very thankful to be a part of this 02's continued history and to be looking after it during it's 50th anniversary.
