Cape Flattery
Cape Flattery, Washington -- most north-western tip of the lower 48! I love studying maps and pinpointing specific areas I'd like to go explore, drawn by a need to see whats there, simply for the sake of it just being there... The Olympic Peninsula has always been the epitome of that curiosity for me, and especially so because I also enjoy seeking out the extremes. So finally having the opportunity to go do a lap around the peninsula and also hit the most north-westernly bit of the contiguous U.S. was perfect! It did NOT disappoint, that's for sure. Absolutely beautiful through there, and the roads are a serious dream to drive as well. Endless sweeping curves with a perfect balance of twists vs. speed; perfectly suited for the joy of driving this car. Not many people up there either, at least not in the early mornings when I was out, so it was nice being able to find some solitude during hikes in the forests. I'll actually be heading back up there in a couple weeks for a backpacking trip in Olympic National Park, so having caught a glimpse of it now has definitely further amplified my excitement for that adventure! 🌲
Only bummer thing about this past weekend was that there was a bit of fog out beyond the cape, so the Cape Flattery Lighthouse wasn't visible from the shore. Guess I'll just have to go back sometime, and/or perhaps even find a way to visit the actual island where the Lighthouse exists. 🤔
